DISINFECTION COMPARISONS
Chlorine is not an adequate disinfectant under certain conditions. When the pH in a body
of water gets high chlorine becomes ineffective. In addition, when using chlorine it is difficult to maintain a residual
of 1.0 to 3.0 ppm (parts per million) in the water. The effective chlorine in a body of water can be almost totally
depleted in a few hours. Also, with the use of chlorine there is a significant increase in irritation of the eyes, ears,
and skin.
USA TODAY, reported that "swimmers had significantly more eye, ear, and skin infections than nonswimmers
- largely because of high bacteria and virus levels in pools, according to an Illinois public health researcher."
In conclusion, chlorine itself is not doing a satisfactory job in protecting
the health of the public.
Ionization uses electronically produced copper and silver ions to purify a body
of water. The copper kills algae and the silver kills bacteria and viruses. The ions do not dissipate like chlorine
and, remain very stable. The body of water will stay sanitized days or weeks with the system turned off, and with no
additional copper or silver ions being added.
Copper and silver are not absorbed through the skin. In fact, a glass of EPA approved drinking
water could have 5 times as much copper in it as a glass of water that has been processed by ionization.
Testing has been done on the effectiveness of ionization in both swimming pool applications and
cooling tower applications. Tests have shown the effectiveness of copper and silver in killing E. Coli. Many other
tests have shown that silver also kills viruses and other types of bacteria. 3 ppb (parts per billion) of silver was
necessary to prevent the growth of pseudomonas. Silver kills Salmonella and can kill bacteria highly resistant to
antibiotics.
A professor at the University of Arizona, in Tucson reported that "Legionella Pneumophila, which
causes legionaires disease was killed approximately 1000 times faster when an ionization system was used to add .20 ppm of
copper and 20 ppb of silver to .2 ppm of chlorine as compared to the use of chlorine itself. Legionella is very resistant
to high levels of chlorine."
The Aqua-Tron Water Purification System introduces a safe low voltage
DC current across a set of specially formulated copper and silver electrodes. As the water passes through the sealed
chamber, a steady stream of positively charged ions are generated to purify the water. The dead algae and bacteria particles
floc together, and are removed effectively by the filtration system. The active ions stay in solution until they are
used up by the process.
Our lowest priced WT model is perfect for your spa or above ground pool. But if you are looking
for a better solution try the AT model. The AT model is equipped with a microprocessor that will adjust the copper/silver
levels in the pool automatically after initial start-up; thus, alleviating weekly testing and adjusting.
Since the Aqua-Tron Water Purification System automatically sanitizes
the water, it is only necessary to test the ion level every couple of weeks. In addition, copper and silver disinfection
is pH balanced, and unaffected by heat or sunlight, therefore having no affect on the water chemistry.
An ionizer keeps the water safe and sanitary by killing the algae and bacteria. Occasionally
you will need to oxidize the dissolved organics like; body oils, deodorants, suntan lotion an ammonia compounds. Oxidizing
is recommended every week or two to keep the water crystal clear.
